Aaliyah Ashlyn Chand

Killed by babysitter Shayal Upashna Sami. The day before Aaliyah was injured her father noticed a small, red bruise on her cheek while he changed her nappy. The next day, the back of Aaliyah's head was hit against a hard surface by her babysitter at a house at Worcester Street in Linwood, Christchurch. Aaliyah suffered two skull fractures, severe facial bruising, swelling to the brain and haemorrhages to her eyes. She was left instantly comatose and died the following day in Christchurch Hospital

January 2015: Aaliyah Ashlyn Chand died with her parents at her side. The 1-year-old sustained a major head injury while in the care of her regular babysitter Shayal Upashna Sami, then 18.
