Han var i teneste hos <astyle="text-decoration: none; color: #0b0080; background-image: none;" title="Fut" href="https://nn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fut">futen</a> på <a style="text-decoration: none; color: #0b0080; background-image: none;" title="Kviteseid" href="https://nn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kviteseid">Kviteseid</a>, der han etter kvart vart kontorist og fullmektig. Så gifta han seg til garden Midbøen i <a style="text-decoration: none; color: #0b0080; background-image: none;" title="Seljord" href="https://nn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seljord">Seljord</a>, sidan var han gardbrukar på Grave i Seljord. Frå 1851 var han <a style="text-decoration: none; color: #0b0080; background-image: none;" title="Lensmann" href="https://nn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lensmann">lensmann</a> i Seljord. Han var forlikskommissær frå 1850. Grave var mellom stiftarane av Seljord <a style="text-decoration: none; color: #0b0080; background-image: none;" title="Sparebank" href="https://nn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparebank">Sparebank</a>, og var direktør i same i årevis.</p> <p style="margin: 0.5em 0px; line-height: inherit; caret-color:#222222; color: #222222; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Åsmund Grave var valmann i tretti år, 1847-76. Han vart vald til stortingsmann 1851-66. På <a style="text-decoration: none; color: #0b0080; background-image: none;" title="Stortinget" href="https://nn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stortinget">Stortinget</a> var han sekretær i budsjettkomiteen 1851-57 og 1859-63, visesekretær i Stortinget 1857-64, sekretær i <a style="text-decoration: none; color: #0b0080; background-image: none;" title="Odelstinget" href="https://nn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odelstinget">Odelstinget</a>1859-66. Dessutan var han 1858 medlem av tollkomiteen, 1862-63 av skoglovskomiteen, 1865-66 av budsjettkomiteen.
