From around 1600 to the end of the century, the name of the sjav man at the estate was Åsmund Sveinson. He died in 1695 when he was 66 years old. His wife was Guro Talleivsdaughter who died in 1693 at the age of 56 years. At the probate of her property the following year there was no personal property but the estate owned 2 tn. 3 kvartel value of the estate with the dwelling ivi all together. The whole time he operated Groven he owned various small parts of the estate.
There was a probate of Asmund’s property in 1695 and the net value of his part of Groven was 86 dalar and 1 tn., 1 1/2 kvartel, 1 nott. He and Guro had these children who were alive then: (1) Svein who was married to Guro Tarkjeldsdaughter Vestre Asheim who died in 1700 at the age of 34 1/2 years, and he was married a second time to Ingebjørg Eiriksdaughter who evidently died in 1721, the same year as Svein died. (2) Talleiv who died unmarried in 1700 at the age of 23 1/2 years. (3) Ingebjørg who was married to Andres Halvorson who died in 1707 when he was 44 years old and who evidently also lived at Groven. At the probate after him, the gross value was 40 dalar but the debt was 60, which included 9 melir value of Groven, perhaps without byksel, mortgaged for 23 dalar.
As mentioned, there should be no problem to say that Åsmund Sveinsen Groven in Seljord was a son of Svein Åsmundsen from Rygnestad in Valle. Page 634 and 636 in Mo “bygdebok”, shows that Svein Åsmundsen was a son of Åsmund Tolleivsen, who was a son of Tolleiv Kjetilsen N. Rygnestad in Valle and Torbjørg Drengsdatter from Åsland. Torbjørg was a daughter of Dreng Ormsen Åsland (in 1577 his wife was named Signe, but we don’t know if she was Torbjørg’s mother!) Dreng must be a son of Orm Kjetilsen and Torbjørg Drengsdatter on Åsland. Orm Kjetilsen could be a son of Kjetil Ormsen, who was a juryman in cases on Åmdal, Byrte and Begland from 1481-1497!
A property exchange record is found in a dded of conveyance dated 21 May 1662 when Åsmund sold 1/2 barrel in Bakken to his brother, Ole Bakken for 60 riksdaler.
