About Abbe Jean Bovet

Father Jean Bovet (1900-1952) Born in Villaz-Saint-Pierre (Fribourg), Switzerland, in 1900, was ordained as priest in Friborg in 1924. He was the parish priest in Archamps (Haute-Savoie) from 1942 to November 1944.

In September 1942, Jean Bovet helped young Bernhard Blumenkranz a non-practicing Orthodox Jew from Poland who settled in France due to antisemitism in Poland in the early 30's, crossed the border between France and Switzerland. A passage outside the sector, where fugitive and future savior did not know each other.
Bernhard claimed to have known that the priest "had helped save many other Jews".

Jean Bovet left Archamps and succeeded a priest in Saint-Gingolph who had been shot by the Germans.
He died in Dijon.
