About Abe Isaac Moore

Abe “JoJo” Moore, 91, passed away August 16, 2012. Abe was born in Warsaw, Poland on November 4, 1920 to Max and Florence Moore. He came to Houston when he was only three years old. He graduated from Jeff Davis High School in Houston. Abe enlisted in the Army Air Corp and provided supply and logistical air support to the Flying Tigers. He was very proud to be a member of the China Burma India Group and the Jewish War Veterans. During WWII, he met the love of his life Betty Ozon from Galveston and after two years they were married. Abe and Betty were married for 63 years until her death in 2009. Abe and Betty raised four children together, the twins Mike and Steve, Beverly and Myra. After the war, Abe started Texas Iron and Metal along with brother Alex and brother-in-law Sidney. After many years, he started his own business, TIMCO Supply. He and Betty loved going on trips to Las Vegas. Abe was very active in United Orthodox Synagogues, where he served as an officer. He enjoyed many years in the choir; he truly loved singing and had a beautiful voice. He volunteered and was very active in fundraising for March of Dimes and AMIT Children. After retirement, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all, family was the most important thing to Abe and he never met a stranger. He also loved sports, excelled in baseball, was a member of the Ramblers Social Organization and inducted to the Houston Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Abe is preceded in death by his wife Betty, brother Alex Moore and his wife Minette, brother-in-law Sidney Reichenthal and son-in-law Steve Kogut. He is survived by the twins, Steve and Michael Moore and Steve’s wife Denise, daughters Beverly Moore Kogut and Myra Moore Soffar and husband Damon, Grandchildren; Jeffrey Davis and wife Ann, Samuel Davis and wife Ivy, Neil Kogut, Mindy Kogut, Stacie Moore and Amanda Moore, Great-grandchildren; Betty and Ezra Davis and sister Evelyn Moore Reichenthal. A funeral service will be held at United Orthodox Synagogues, 9001 Greenwillow Street, Houston, Texas on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 11:00 A.M.. The burial will immediately follow at Adath Israel Cemetery, 4714 Airline Drive, Houston, Texas. Donations may be made to AMIT Children in care of Beverly Bloom, 7520 Brompton #695, Houston, Texas 77025. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Houston Hospice nurse Patty, caregivers Hattie Johnson, Cherry Britton, Diverna Boggs and Christian Buckner.
