About Abel King Bristow
. * Updated from Find A Grave Memorial via sister Catherine Sims Baskett (born Bristow) by SmartCopy: Jun 1 2015, 22:37:04 UTC
Oregon-Donation Act Township 18 Rang. 002W Secs. 25, 26, 35, 36. Home was located in SE corner of Sec 36. Today a little more than half a mile from State Highway 58. Later owned by Paul Douglas Green and later his heirs. See farm pic in Media tab.
"He arrived in Oregon 2 Oct 1848 and resided and took up a claim 2 miles NE of his father along the middle fork of the Willamette river. He parked his wagon and built his house above the flood plain and farmed the fertile river bottom soil next to the Willamette. Both are still there. Just below his house is Rattlesnake creek, a good place for fresh water year round and teeming with salmon and trout in times of the year. Multiple springs, ponds, creeks and the river made it an excellent place to farm and hunt. He put his house on the high dry ground and took a square mile in his claim, the South East corner nearest to his house. One child who died 1850 or prior is buried there, because there was no community Cemetery. Elijah Bristow's house in 1850 is where the Pleasant Hill Cemetery is now." -M. Taylor AK Bristow Homestead farm manager.
