About Abel S. Virkler
Left with the 4th contingent from Lowville on Feb 23, 1918 and was stationed at Camp Devons, MA. Later transferred to Camp Upton, Long Island from where he sailed for France with the American Expeditionary Forces, arriving safely overseas May 10, 1918. Private Virkler was a member of the 305th Field Artillery, Battery C, 77th Division, and saw active service from June serving on both fronts before being killed on Nov 2, 1918, just nine days before the Armistice was signed.
