Abial was born in about 1740 in Tiverton, Massachusetts the son of Job and Ann Bennett Cook. After 1747 and the realignment of state lines, Tiverton was in Rhode Island.

He married Susannah Cole in about 1766 [1] . She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Luther Cole.

Together Abial and Susannah had six children:

Betty/Elizabeth (1770-)

Job (1782-)
The three girls were named after Abial’s wife, Susannah; his mother, Ann; and his mother-in-law Elizabeth/Betty, and the boys were named after himself, Abial; his father Job, and his father-in-law William.
Susannah died before 1786 and Abial married Anna Lee.
