biography

Most genealogies show Abiel Parker as a child of Joshua Parker and Abigail Shattuck. Some leave her out. Between her parents' marriage 22 September 1690 and Joshua's death 5 May 1691 there were seven months during which a conception could have taken place. If conceived in September 1690, Abiel would have been born in June 1691; if conceived in April 1691, Abiel would have been born in December 1691. In either event, her birth would have occurred after her father's death. To prove Abiel was a daughter, she must have been born in 1691. Day-1904 09:27, 18 August 2015 (EDT)

One proof of the relationship is that Abiel (Parker) Herrington & Husband George Herrington were plaintiffs in a suit regarding Abiel's right to a one thirty-first grandchild's share of the lands of James Parker, her grandfather, since she was the daughter of Joshua Parker and his wife widow Abigail (Shattuck) Morse [1]

An abstract of the will of Captain James Parker, naming Abiel as the daughter of his deceased son Joshua, is below:

(Midd. X : 149-543) Probate of the Will of Capt James Parker late of Groton, Co. Midd., deced, admcon allowed to Josiah Parker son of the said deced, exor in the said will. 7 Aug 1700.

  • In presence of Jonas Prescott, Thomas Tarbell, James Blanchard.

Inventory apprized 12 July 1700, and sworn to by Mr. Josiah Parker of Cambridge 7 Aug 1700 at Charlestown. [2] Bond, however [3] shows Abiel Parker as dau. of James Parker of Groton.
