I haven't seen a reliable source on the parents being James Smith and Abigail Hempstead. This DAR linage has Abigail Brooks (Smith), who married to Thaddeus Brooks, as the daughter of James, but it also states "This listing does not constitute proof of lineage."
Note: From the book compiled by Lucius Barbour dated 1933 - Abigail and her husband Thaddeus were originally buried in the Second Burial Ground, then moved to Cedar Grove cem.
