On July 22, 1710, three daughters of Catherine and Richard; Sarah (b. 1702), Margaret (b. 1704), and Abigail (b. 1706) were kidnapped by Canadian Indians and carried away to Quebec. They were in captivity for seven years before the younger two were ransomed and return home.
The oldest girl, Sarah, was married to an Indian before this and was not returned. Many years later, she became homesick for her family and returned to Exeter with her husband and five children, with the hope that they could live there. It did not work out, and the family returned to Canada.
