Charity Mead

Origin

Abigail Charity Mead

Origin

In the Barbour Collection, there is an entry for Abigail, daughter of David, born July 17, 1710 (ER 159), [Book of Early Records, 1640-1754 Page 159] and also "Abigail, daughter of David and Abigail [ ] 17, 1710," in which the month is omitted (LR1, 4) [First Volume of Land Records Page 4].[1] Spencer P. Mead calls her only "Charity Mead" (no Abigail), and she has no sister named Abigail (Pg 368).[2] The Family Search article calls her "Abigail (Charity)."[3]

She was a daughter of David Mead and Abigail Leane, born c. 1710 at Greenwich, Connecticut.

Birth date is a guess.
The Birth Date is a rough estimate. See the text for details.
Alternate birth date: July 17, 1710, without evidence.[citation needed]

Marriage and Children

Charity married on April 23, 1738 at Greenwich, Connecticut to Jonathan Fiske.[1] Rev Mr. Todd performed the ceremony.[1]

Children:[3]

Jonathan Fiske b. 13 Aug 1739, d. 1814, m. 21 July 1762, Hannah Reynolds, his step-sister, the youngest daughter of Nathaniel and Ruth (Purdy) Reynolds. She was b. 1743 and died 1814. (Jonathan Fiske is mentioned in Reuben McBride's jJournal, as a great- uncle.).
Nathaniel Fiske b. about 1741, m. Martha ________.
David Fiske probably married Faith Doty. They are mentioned in the Reuben McBride Journal.
William Fiske m. (1) _________ m. (2) 4 Feb 1793, Abigail Denton.
Martha Fiske b. abt. 1747. She was a minor in 1756, when her father made his will, but was of legal age in 1767 when she sold her inheritance, signing the record with her mark. The birth dates of her children indicate that she was married about this time to Gideon Mead, and probably moved to New York state. The fact that she was unable to write probably explains why we have so few records of the family.
Jerusha Fiske b. 24 Aug 1748, in Greenwich, Conn., probably d. y.
Rebecca Fiske b. 24 Aug 1748, in Greenwich, Conn., probably d. y.
Abigail Fiske b. abt. 1750.
Death

Charity died c. 1752.
