Obit for Abner Loveless Added by habailey99 on 27 Sep 2007 Death of A. P. Loveless Died at his residence in the _____ern part of this county, on April 7, A. P. Loveless at the ripe old age of 75. He was born in the State of South Carolina on April 7, 1825.

While still in his boyhood his parents moved to Pickens county, Georgia. Soon after attaining his majority Abner Loveless was married to Miss Nancy Townsend, daughter of Ned Townsend, a pioneer settler and wealthy planter of Pickens county.

Fifteen children blessed their union, ten of whom survive him to console and comfort their mother. Mr. Loveless was well known and highly respected in his county by all who knew him. He represented his county in the general assembly in the years of 1873-74, declining re-election for a second term.

Becoming dissatisfied in his old home he moved to the State of Alabama in the year 1885, settling in Marion county where he resided until his death. He was well known and highly esteemed by all who knew him in his new home, alike as in his old one. It has often been said that no one could be found who could say an evil word against old "Uncle Ab." During his early life he professed a hope in Christ and his sons and daughters grew around him and joined the Baptist Church along with their mother, as the father never saw fit to attach himself to the Church.

When the end came he passed humbly and peacefully away, trusting in Jesus' power to save. His remains were followed to the cemetery at Bethel Church by a host of friends and relatives amid a flood of tears. At the grave impressive ceremonies were conducted by Rev. Joshua Collier, after which the body of the good old father in Israel was laid peacefully in the tomb. Our sympathy goes out to the bereaved relatives who have lost one so near and dear to their hearts and we can but exclaim with the poet:
There'll be no dark valley when
Jesus comes, To gather his loved ones home.
