About Abraham Hort, Sr.
Abraham Hort was one of the founders of the Wellington Jewish community. He is credited with holding the first organised Jewish service in Wellington, and probably in New Zealand. His descendants included a future prime minister, Francis Dillon Bell, and William Hort Levin, a prominent Wellington merchant who gave his name to the town of Levin.
