Major Biography

Abraham ran as a Tory-leaning, pro-government candidate in the 1812 elections in the riding of 1st Lincoln and Haldimand and was defeated by reformer Joseph Willcocks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Willcocks) by 154 votes to 40.[1] (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Nelles-84#_note-0) Willcocks was expelled from the assembly for defecting to the Americans during the War of 1812, and in a February 1814 byelection, the seat was won by Abraham's brother Robert (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Nelles-22) .[2] (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Nelles-84#_note-1) Abraham served in the War of 1812, beginning as a Captain in the 4th Lincoln Militia,[3] (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Nelles-84#_note-2) promoted to Major on October 16, 1814. His name appears on a list of militia taken prisoner and held in the U.S.[ (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Nelles-84#_note-3)
