Abraham Switzer, a descendent of the sturdy Swiss people, his father Valentine having been a native of Switzerland. Valentine was born in about 1723 in Heckfeld, Mosbach, Baden, Germany. On October 13, 1749, Valentine arrived from Germany aboard the vessel “Lydia”. Abraham‘s mother, Mary Hotsinpiller Switzer, was born in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia in 1735
Abraham was born April 4, 1767 in Hampshire County, Virginia. During some of his life he migrated to Franklin County, Kentucky. There he met and married Elizabeth Grant. They were blessed with nine children:

Peter Grant in 1801
Sally in 1803
James in 1805
John in 1807
Elizabeth in 1810
Louisa in 1813
Gaily or Julia in 1815
Miranda in 1815
Abraham was a farmer and pursued that occupation in Pennsylvania and Kentucky until his removal to this Montgomery County, Indiana, in a wagon with his family in 1828. He purchased a tract of forest covered land from Mr. Moore and settled upon it. He also bought land around Greencastle. He died on the old Homestead near Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana, on January 12, 1838 at the age of 70. He was buried in the Switzer Cemetery, Waynetown, Montgomery county, Indiana.
