I know that she was built in 1866 and was registered in Leith in the
1870's. ....I have found some destinations for her but wondered if
anyone knows her destinations in 1881......
Good evening Jill, NORTH STAR , at 647 GRT, was one of the smaller vessels of the Leith Hull & Hamburg Steam Packet Co. She was built by Henderson in Renfrew in 1866 for Selligmann & Co., Glasgow , being bought by the Company in1871 and registered at Leith. She was bought at a time when LH&H were entering into a ship lengthening and upgrading to compound engine programme and she was used as a "general dogsbody" covering for these vessels which were of a similar tonnage. At the time you are interested in she was found in Leith ,Newcastle, London ,Hamburg and Bremen. If you can give me the months your man was serving on her will get the actual ports/dates for you. Incidentally she was scrapped at Alloa in 1909.
regards. John.
