About Achilles Ballinger

A son of Joseph Jr. & Sarah Ballinger, Achilles Ballinger relocated to Amherst County, Virginia with his parents where he later married Mildred Hudson on May 5, 1787.

In 1796 they moved to Garrard County, Kentucky where he held the position of county sheriff in 1818. He was also a tobacco inspector and a farmer while living there.
In 1830 the move was made to Marion County, Missouri. By the time of the 1850 census only Achilles and his daughter, Elizabeth, made up the household.
Upon death, he was buried in the family cemetery on his farm. Note: Many original documents have spelling "Archilles". However, on some of these documents (land records, etc.) the "R" is marked out in a clearly contemporaneous correction.
