Dec. 11, 1923-Aug. 24, 2017...Ada I. Fretland, 93, of Tioga, ND, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 surrounded by her family at Tioga Medical Center Long Term Care. Her funeral arrangements are with Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home of Tioga, ND. Friends may sign the on-line register and give their condolences at www.fulkersons.com. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 28, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Tioga. Pastor Sandra Anderson will officiate and interment will be in the Trinity Churchyard Cemetery, South of Tioga. Friends may call at the Fulkerson Stevenson Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM and at the church on Monday one hour prior to services.
Ada (Wolla) Fretland was born on December 11, 1923 on the family farm in Westbank Township, to John and Ida (Knutson) Wolla. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended the Wolla School and Tioga HS. Ada worked at several jobs after she moved to East Grand Forks, mostly as a waitress. On Oct. 7, 1945, she was united in marriage to James Fretland in Tioga. They farmed, ranched and raised their family on their farm south of Tioga. Ada enjoyed her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and her siblings. Ada was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Trinity WELCA group. She loved being a member of the Tioga Senior Citizens group. She also belonged to the Sons of Norway and helped found the Beaver Lodge 4-H Club. She and her sisters also loved attending the Norsk Hostfest in Minot and went until health wouldn’t allow it.
Ada is survived by: her children, Wally (Sue) Towner, ND; Steven, Tioga; Sandra (Richard) Nelson, Tioga; Leonard (Cynthia) Parker, CO; Glenn (Maureen) Casper, WY. Grandchildren Joy Sparks, Brady Fretland, Stephanie Bryant, Michael Fretland, Patrick Fretland, Hannah Nelson-Diaz, Gretchen Bitz, Everett Nelson, Adrian Fretland, Erica Shaw, Emily Fretland, Molly Fretland, Wade Lewis, Eric Lewis and 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Ada was preceded in death by: her husband, James; her parents; siblings Arnold, Kermit, Myrtrice, Evelyn, Jeanette, Deloris; and son Gene Lewis.
