Caroline married Hugo Ludwig Scherer. He was the son of german immigrants Ludwig Scherer and Wilhelmine Otto. Ludwig was a baby when his parents Adam Scherer (1832-1880) & Marie Ann Morgenstern immigrated to South Africa from Germany aboard the La Rochelle, together with his brother Alfred Rudolph. They settled in Breidbach.
In South Africa they had six more children - Hulda Wilhelmine who married Thomas Petzer, Meta Helene Friedericke married August Wilhelm Durrheim (son of Carl August Durrheim & Johanna Ninnemann), Adam Friedrich Paul, Anna Maria Margarita married Ernest Arthur Pattison, Amanda Rose Rebecca married Edwind H Radue & Arthur Walter Samuel die 1924 (unmarried).
