Addison Jerome studied law in Skaneateles under Julia's father. Eventually, he moved his family to New York City, where he was listed as 'merchant' and later 'banker' in the censuses. He was also an investor and became quite wealthy. Addison died in 1864 and for the next 30 years, Julia maintained a large home in Manhattan where she welcomed many of her children and grandchildren to live with her. In the 1880 census, there were 11 family members and six servants in the household. There were a butler, two nurses, a cook, and two housemaids. It must have been an interesting mix, because the servants were from Ireland, France, and Prussia. Julia Gould and Addison Jerome had six children, each of whom married and had children.
