About Adduston Rogers, Sr.
Adduston Rogers married Catherine Doswell before 1727 in York Co. VA. However, no marriage record has been found. They had 6 issue--Elizabeth, Adduston, John Adduston, Mary, Doswell, and Thomas. We do not know if the first four married or not and we do not know the names of their spouses We do know that Doswell and Thomas were married and the names of their issue.
Adduston, John Adduston, and Mary had their births recorded in York Co. VA in the Charles Parish. Elizabeth was named in her grandmother's Will as the daughter of Adduston and Catherine.
Eleanor Rogers Edmondson, author of "Descendants of Doswell Rogers" wrote...
"I am working on the parents of Doswell Rogers. The documentation will be the proof that the theory established by Chan Edmondson back in the early 1970's in the VA State Archieves is correct. Chan found the entailment of John Adduston and saw where Adduston Rogers married a Catherine DOSWELL. My Doswell Rogers was born in 1736 which would fit the time frame of their children. However, only three children were in the parish records of York Co. VA. The fourth child was located in the Will of her grandmother. We believe that Adduston Rogers and Catherine Doswell are Doswell's parents. In 1792 in Wythe Co. VA an Adenstone Rogers witnesses two deed for my Doswell Rogers. This is the very first instance of circumstancial evidence that an Adduston-Rogers-Doswell connection exists WEST of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This Adenstone is also located in Lee Co. VA where Doswell Rogers moved to. Therefore, the next theory is that this Adenstone is the son of Doswell. I have traced Adenstone until his death in IN.
Anyone interested in the John Adduston entailment will find it in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly for 1989. However, Adduston Rogers and Catherine Doswell are only mentioned in the footnotes as their line was NOT considered important to the body of the research."
Adduston Rogers was born ca 1701 in York Co. VA. He married Catherine Doswell whose brother Thomas Doswell was a well-known horse breeder. Doswell, VA is named after this family. It is close to the Magic Kingdom amusement park.
Adduston moved his family to Goochland Co. VA sometime in the 1740's. He died there about 1747 according to records found in the courthouse. His death was recorded because he failed to appear for a court hearing. He did not leave a Will and his settlement was years long according to what I was reading.
