The name Adel=noble(German/Yiddish). Ada=ornament, jewel. Ada (ayin, daled, heh)is one of the two wives of Lemech; see Genesis 4:19. Ada is also the name of one of Esaw's wives (Genesis 36.2). Adelaide was an excellent athlete and won some prizes swimming during her youth and adolescence. Was an excellent tennis player while in junior college. She engaged in both of these sports all of her life.

Adelaide was a very enterprising young woman and had a number of civil service jobs from 1932-1936. In 1937 she also applied for a job in Des Moines, Iowa, which evidently never happened.On the most recent of her civil service applications she listed Seymour as a reference. Her jobs were as follows:

1. Oct. 1932-Sept.1933: Dr. Burton Finne 2. Jan. 1934-April 1935: Federal Works Administration, City Hall, Chicago'May 1935-July 1935: War Department, Signal Corps Procurement, Chicago 3. July 1935-Sept 1935: Department of Justice, Washington, DC She was appointed to a job in the Bureau of Animal Husbandry, U.S. Department of Agriculture, in Chicago July 28, 1936. It is unclear whether she accepted this job.
