About Adela Ann Bramlette
Information from Dr. Richard Lowe, 2 May 1999, 3791 Hartlee Field Road, Denton, TX 76208: The family pronounced her name as though it was spelled 'Adelia' (Uh-deel-ya), and her tombstone apparently reads Adelia, but I have her signature, 'Adela,' on a letter in the Bates collection. Her husband, William Bramlette, was a frequent correspondent of James C. Bates (Adela's brother), whose diary and letters I edited for my book. William's brother, by the way, was a Union army colonel in Kentucky and governor of Kentucky in the second half of the war. The home of William and Adela Bramlette (next door to 730 Clarksville Street, a funeral home today, I'm told) was also home to James C. Bates and his mother plus Ebenezer L. Dohoney and another boarder.
