About Adelaide Allenby (Chapman), Viscountess Allenby of Megiddo
Adelaide Mabel Chapman was the daughter of Horace Edward Chapman and Adelaide Maria Fletcher. She married Field Marshal Edmund Henry Hynman Allenby, 1st Viscount Allenby of Megiddo, son of Hynman Allenby and Catherine Anne Cane, on 30 December 30,1896 at Donhead, St. Andrews, Wiltshire, England. She died on 20 March 20,1942.
She was decorated with the award of the Grand Cordon, Order of El Kemal of Egypt. As a result of her marriage, Adelaide Mabel Chapman was styled as Viscountess Allenby of Megiddo on October 7, 1919. She was invested as a Dame of Grace, Order of St. John of Jerusalem (D.G.St.J.).
Her only child, son Horace, followed his father's career, joining the British Army. He was killed in battle in France during World War I.
