Social Activist, Author, Painter, Spiritualist. During the Civil War she served as a nurse with the 32nd Wisconsin Volunteers Infantry. She studied at the School of Design in San Francisco in 1870, and later had a studio doing marine wildlife and portraits. There, she became active in women's rights, where she introduced a legislative bill to allow for women to be appointed as Public Notaries. Inducted into the San Francisco Hall of Fame. And included with in Women's Memorial in Washington DC

Addie Lucia Ballou (April 19, 1837 – August 10, 1916) was an American suffragist, poet, artist, author, and lecturer
During the American Civil War, Ballou spent years in the union army caring for wounded soldiers.
Addie Ballou was born in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, on April 19, 1837 to Alexander Hamilton and Mary "Polly" (Eldredge) Hart. Her parents were from New York, where they were married in 1827, and where three of Addie's older siblings were also born. After removing to Ohio in the early 1830's, Addie was the fifth of nine children born to Alexander and Mary. But, after the death of Addie's mother in 1846, Alexander remarried three times, fathering six more children.
