About Adell Sarah "Dell" Munn
Birth: Nov. 24, 1859 Bennington Shiawassee County Michigan, USA Death: Jul. 2, 1944 Bancroft Shiawassee County Michigan, USA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Daughter of Abraham 'Abram' Hutchings (1835-1917) and Sarah Adell Parker (1839-1923).
Her siblings were Coart R. 'CR' Hutchings (1863-1918), and Charles 'Charlie' Hutchings (1868-1881); both also born in Bennington, Shiawassee County, Michigan.
She wed William P. Munn on December 5, 1875 in Bennington. Adell was 16; Will was 20. The ceremony was performed by J.W. Fairchild, Minister, and witnessed by both her uncle, Newman C. Hutchings, who had lived with her family from the time she was 4 years old; and his fiancée, Mary A. Baese.
(A scribbled line through the 'B' on one copy of the Shiawassee County marriages report led an LDS transcriber to erroneously interpret the town's name as Pennington; which is not a city, but a county in Michigan. He/she further added, without evidence, that the fictitious town was in Lenawee County. This is an example of why you should 'Do your Homework' when it comes to online research. Both the valid and the erroneous interpretations exist on FamilySearch, side by side.)
The couple stated on the 1900 US census that they were the parents of seven children, with five surviving to that date. One child was never recorded. Their six known children were:
Lillian (1876-1968) who married Lelon Dean
Guy W. Munn (1878-1965) who married Bertha Whiting
Jimmie Munn (1882-1895) 13, who passed from Scarlet Fever
Clyde Munn (1884-1959) who 1st married Olive Hazel; 2nd married Blanch Bond (Mrs. Stewart)
Pearl Munn (1891-?) who married Anna Ott
Glen Munn (1897-1948) who 1st married Ernestine Kortman; 2nd wed Amy Williams (Mrs. Mastaw), daughter of Ollie & Anna.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Adell's husband passed away in Bennington in May of 1918 after suffering severe complications from the Spanish Flu, aka La Grippe. He was buried in Bennington's Alton Cemetery.
Eventually Mrs. Munn retired from the family farm in Bennington, and over the course of 26 years lived singly in nearby small towns; and then in a rooming house in Perry with six other senior women.
It was in Bancroft, just ten miles from Bennington Township, that she passed away in 1944. Her Michigan Death Certificate stated her full married name; that she was 84 and a widow.
It is believed she too was buried at Alton Cemetery, where lie her children, Lillie, Jimmie and Glen; her husband, Will; her parents, Abram and Sarah; and her grandparents, Coart and Amy. However, no headstone for her has yet been discovered.
