"Admiral of the Fleet Sir Thomas John Cochrane GCB (5 February 1789 – 19 October 1872) was an English naval officer and colonial governor...

...In 1812 he married Matilda Lockhart-Ross. Was Married a second time to Lady Rosetta, born 1816 died 1901. He lived at Hanover Lodge, Regent's Park which had previously been owned by General Sir Robert Arbuthnot KCB and was later owned by Admiral David Beatty, 1st Earl Beatty, and latter lived at Quarr Abbey House where they entertained Queen Victoria. Sir Thomas had 4 children, 2 from 1st marriage, Maria Theresa: and a son Alexander Dundas Ross-(1st Earl Lamington), and 2 from 2nd marriage, Ann Annette "Minna" and Thomas Belhaven Henry. His son Alexander was a proficient politician and was MP for Bridport 1841-1852, Lanarkshire 1857, Honiton 1859-1868 and Isle of Wight 1870-1880. Was created 1st Earl Lamington 3rd May 1880.

Thomas John Cochrane died on the Isle of Wight at Quarr Abbey House, Binstead, 19 October 1872 aged 83; he is buried in the family mausoleum, plot 21777 Kensal Green Cemetery London. On 27 May 1901 Sir Thomas' second wife, Rosetta, died on the Isle of Wight, her body was transported by hearse, boat and then train to Waterloo. There it was transferred to a horse drawn hearse and transported to Kensal Green Cemetery and interned in the mausoleum alongside her husband. Present at her funeral was her brother Major Cuffe, her son, Lieutenant Thomas Belhaven Henry, then deputy governor of the Isle of Wight and his two daughters, Minna (lady in waiting to Queen Victoria' youngest daughter Beatrice), also present were the servants from Quarr Abbey House."
