Hoxwier State

The State was Hoxwier northeast of Mantgum, formerly municipality Baarderadeel, now municipality Littenseradiel. The stisn Hoxwier is first mentioned in the 15th century. His name he owes to the fact that it was built at an angle that made the Middle Seawall at that location.
History In the 15th century there were Heringastate on this stins, but around 1500 lives here Aesge Aesges of Hoxwier. Of his three children Ivrea is the scholar of the family, but his younger brother Aesge inherits the state. Through his wife, he also owned Sjaerdema house Franeker and grietman of Franekeradeel. Still, the pair remained largely live on Hoxwier.
When this second Aesge Aesges in 1549 died childless, it went right into the hands of his sister Foeck of Hoxwier, who was married on February 28, 1523 with Gaele of Galama from Koudum. Gaele kept a diary in Frisian. He died in 1559, five years after his wife.

Seerp son, born in 1528, inherited appoint the state with the yard, the garden, canals and ditches and the swan hunting (a noble privilege), while he also became entitled to the clergy Mantgum and Schillaard. In the fight against the Spaniards, he defended himself with a vengeance, so he had to appear in court. Seerp however felt wetness and instead of going himself, he sent two lawyers. That was a smart move, because his brother Hartman Galama and his brother Sjoerd van Beyma went well and both were executed in Brussels. Seerp fled in the winter of 1572 with his wife His Sydsdr. Botnia and its children to Emden. In 1576 he returned to Hoxwier and a year later he was grietman Baarderadeel. He was only 53 years and was buried in the church of Mantgum. His wife survived him by 12 years.
The estate then came to their son Gaele of Galama and his wife Cunera (Cnier) of Hettinga. Until 1657 the house was owned by His Gaeledr. of Galama and her husband Reinier Jochems Hoppers. In that year it was sold to Feye of Aylva. The state was 62 pounds large size and the 'horn army self 8lb size.
In 1665 it was sold again, now the widow of Gatse of Boelens who lived until her death. Her son Dr. Sjoerd van Boelens inherited the state, but after his death in 1692, the state had more than thirty years empty. Then around 1725 the new owner Esquire De Lannoy wanted to live there, the state turned out to be so run down that it could no longer be made habitable. A few years later, the state was also just demolished, cleared the canals and muted the canals. Only the gate remained standing for a while.

"The Present State of Friesland 'from around 1780 there briefly:" Under this village belonged to the State Hoxwier, now yellow oaths thirty or forty Jaaren destroyed So, also, the same was Hoxwier called so because hers whose in the corner of the Zeedyk lag ".

The inhabitants of the farm were standing by the state "the Hoxwiersters" and abbreviated as the "X-whose workers". This family has transformed this nickname in 1812 in the name Swierstra.

The seaweed was excavated in 1860 and Hoxwier is left alone a farm.
