About Agnes Forsyth

AGNES FORSYTH (aka AGNES FORSITH)

Agnes Forsyth here treated is the mother of John Elphinstoun. Liber Protocollorum: number 164 The identity of her son is not certainly known but it has been supposed that he is the man of the same name, who was the rentaller of the lands of Gorbals and Bridgend. He married Bessie Wardlaw Rental Book: pp. 82-3 and died before 13 June 1520. Rental Book: p. 78

First Marriage

The identity of Agnes Forsyth's first husband is equally uncertain but it has been supposed, because he may have been a citizen of Glasgow, that he is the same person as the man named John Elphinstone who is identified as one of the heirs of entail of John Elphinstone of Pittendreich in a charter dated 21 December 1496. RMS: 234 If it is Agnes Forsyth's son John who is also named as one of Pittendreich's heirs of entail five years or so later, on 12 August 1502, then her husband was the uncle of John Elphinstone of Pittendreich, and must therefore have been a son Henry Elphinstone of Pittendreich. RMS: 2662

Second Marriage

Agnes Forsyth married for a second time to Patrick Hamilton. Liber Protocollorum: number 164
