The paternity of Agnes Kennedy, here treated, has not been satisfactorily identified. She is described as the heiress of the estate of Stair Montgomery in Ayrshire in the Scots Peerage account of the Dalrymple, Earls of Stair, but her parents are not identified by name. The Scots Peerage VIII: 115

Agnes Kennedy, here treated, is not the daughter of Gilbert Kennedy, 1st Lord Kennedy No mention of a daughter of this name is made in the Scots Peerage account of his family. The Scots Peerage II: pp. 452-6 for the family of Gilbert Kennedy of Dunure

Biographical Summary

A direct descendent and heir to the Stair-Montgomery estate was Agnes Kennedy (SAID TO BE GRANDDAUGHTER OF MALCOLM DE CARRICK DE STAIR [Source: Scottish Nation Volume 2] About 1450/1451 Agnes Kennedy married a William de Dalrymple (whose direct line to Adam de Dalrymple cannot be proved exactly). But as a result of his marriage William acquired the lands of Stair-Montgomery thereby re-uniting once more the old Dalrymple lands with the Dalrymple family. William built Stair House in Ayrshire shortly after he married Agnes Kennedy. A Papal bull was granted by Pope Nicholas as William and Agnes were in the 3rd and 4th degrees of consanguinity and issued by James Kennedy, Bishop of St Andrew's 1451/1452.
