Agnes Kaschmitter Nickels, a longtime area resident, died of causes related to age Friday October 27, 1995 at Tri-State Memorial Hospital at Clarkston. She was 83.
She was born June 10, 1912, to R. Joseph and Anna V. Weber Kaschmitter at Cottonwood, where she grew up and attended schools.
For many years, she worked in the Cottonwood area as a doctor's assistant and later as a nurse, helping deliver babies at home.
She married Henry Nickels Sept. 1, 1951, at Cottonwood. The couple moved to Pomeroy that same year.
Her husband died in April 1977 and she remained at Pomeroy until moving in the early 1980s to Clarkston, where she had lived since.
She was a member of Holy Family Parish at Clarkston and a former member of Catholic Daughters at Cottonwood and the VFW Women's Auxiliary at Pomeroy.
She is survived by four sisters, Sr. M. Alexia S.O.B. of St. Gertrude's Monastery, Cottonwood, Louise Broemeling of Clarkston, Gertrude Broemeling of Genesee and Loretta Ready of Lewiston; and two brothers, Richard Kaschmitter of Cottonwood and Ted Kaschmitter of Fenn, Idaho.
One sister, Dorothy Darsheid, and two brothers, John and William Kaschmitter, died previously.
An evening vigil will be held at 6 tonight at Merchant's Funeral Home at Clarkston. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday at Holy Family Church at Clarkston with the Rev. Leonard Forsmann of that church officiating.
Burial will follow at Cottonwood Catholic Cemetery.
