Samuel Gentry and his father Joseph Gentry were Revolutionary Soldiers. Joseph was a grandson of one of two brothers who were British Soldiers and came to America in 1676. The Gentry and Philips families were neighbors of Abraham Lincoln's parents in Indiana and grew up with Abe. Abe split rails for James Gentry, bother of Agnes, and for whom the the town Gentryville, Indiana is named.
