About Ailsius de Osbaldeston

Alisius is also referred to by chroniclers as Eilfi and Ailsi.
Extant sources of merit validate neither a fixed nor a well-reasoned
approximation for this person-profile's birth year.

  • Stirnet quotes from the Victoria County History website as follows: "Osbaldeston and the adjoining vill of Balderston represent one of the twenty-eight Domesday manors held in 1066 by a freeman who was probably the ancestor of Ailsi son of Hugh". Hugh de Osbaldeston of Osbaldeston, Lancashire. Ailsi de Osbaldeston (d. before 1217).” (Note: The unnamed relation in the passage, of course, was not Hugo. In 1066, he was neither alive nor holding “28 Domesday manors”. The unnamed ancestor may’ve been Hugo’s grandfather.)
