Aksel Torgersen Bø

Ifølge E.Hougen, Ættesoge for Gudbrandsdalen, Bind 1, side 125, var Aksel Torgersen Bø sønn av Torger Iversen Bø. (På slektssidene til Nils Chr. Steig, er Aksel Torgersen oppførs som sønn av Torger Torgersen Bø, som igjen var sønn av Torger Iversen Bø.)

Aksel (or Axel) Torgersen Bø married Rønnaug Olsdatter Melby and moved to Melby. Aksel is listed as the operator of Melby in 1647 and 1658. (These are from Hovdhaugen’s Gardar og Slekter i Fron (vol. 2, p. 306).) Aksel Torgersen Melby had two probates: 4 Oct 1667 and 18 Nov 1678. The same six children are listed as heirs in both, and they are all of legal age in 1667 (meaning a birth date of no later than 1642 for them?). (At the 1678 probate, two of the children have died, and their children inherit their shares.)

There has been uncertainty and disagreement whether Aksel was the son of Torger Torgersen Bø (d. 1665) and Tore Amundsdatter Tune (d. 1682) or the brother of Torger Torgersen Bø (d. 1665). One argument against Aksel being a son of Torger Torgersen Bø (d. 1665) and Tore Amundsdatter Tune and a grandson of Torger Iversen Bø (b. ca. 1580) is timing: the estimated birth years would mean Torger Iversen Bø became a grandfather at age 25. Another argument against Aksel being a son of Torger Torgersen Bø (d. 1665) and Tore Amundsdatter Tune Bø is that Aksel isn’t listed among their heirs. Their probates (20 May 1665 and 26 May 1682) list the same three children: Torger, Ingeborg, and Kari (Ingeborg has died by 1682, but she is listed, as her children get her share). If Aksel were their son, he should have been included as an heir.
