Biography

Aletheus (or Alethius ) of Burgondie († 616 ), ( Aléthée in French) was patrician of Burgondie, and would come from the royal Burgonde dynasty. He was tried and executed by order of Clotaire II after rebelling.

It is in 613 that the patrician Aletheus is reported for the first time. He and three dukes named Rocco, Sigoaldus and Eudila, are on the side of the palace mayor Warnachaire II who is plotting against Queen Brunhild .

A few years after Brunhild's death, with the help of Bishop Leudemund of Sion and the Ultrajuran Count Herpinus, Aletheus unsuccessfully attempted to overthrow Clotaire II . Even wanting to repudiate his wife and marry Queen Bertrude , Aletheus will be judged and then executed on the spot.
