notes
From A History of the County of Lancaster: Volume 3, pp. 131-140
Alan le Norreys of Formby had at least three sons, Henry, Alan and John. Alan, the son, married Margery, the daughter of Sir Patrick de Haselwell. About the same time, Sir Patrick's daughter, Nichola married one of the other sons, John. Sir Patrick granted each of his son-in-laws a hald of the Haselwell moiety.
From Ormerod, " Memoir of the Lancashire House of Le Noreis or Norres, and of it Speke Branch in Particular," Transactions of the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire, ser.1 v.2 1849-1850, pp. 142-148
Alan's second son, Herny, was of Daresbury. Alan, Robert and John were witnesses to a Daresbury Charter in which Henry quitclaims land between Daresbury and Acton Grange to the Monks , as "Dominus de Daresbury." Also within this charter is, "Hiis testivus, Alano, Robert et Johanne le Norreys fratribus meis." [Whalley Coucher Book, p. 412] which gives us the name of his brothers.
Ormerod, the auther of the article, using documentation, shows that the Alan and John who were the brothers of Henry, were also the Alan le Norreys and John le Norreys of Speke. He points out that Alan, John, Henry and Robert were all living at the same time, plus he found no others of these names that occur in that place or at that time. This makes this Alan, father of Alan, Henry, Robert and John, and the comman ancestor of both the Speke Norreys' line and the Daresbury Norreys' line. As further evidence, Alan also appears as a witness to the grants that Sir Patrick Haselwell gave two his two daughter who married Alan's sons, Alan and John of Speke.
