He was a founder and director of Game stores which was started in 1970 in a outlet in Smith Street, Durban. Alan J Hellman, Jack Schaefer and John Dobbin were closely associated with Game. It was a cash discount operation and it guaranteed the quality of its products and offered them at a price none of their competitors could match.
