Alan M. Thaler Obituary Condolences
Alan M. Thaler, 87, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2004 at the Classic Residence, Scottsdale, AZ. He was born in Toronto, Canada, on March 15, 1917, son of Maurice and Diane Oberlander Thaler. Alan received his baccalaureate degree from the University of Toronto, majoring in math and physics. He worked for the Prudential Insurance Company for 37 years, rising to the office of Senior Vice President. At Prudential, he had full responsibility for developing and bringing to market many new insurance concepts, including the first comprehensive form of medical coverage now known as Major Medical Insurance. He was a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and was a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. In 1969, he joined the actuarial consulting firm Milliman and Robertson where he was elected full partnership after one year. He acquired numerous clients for the firm, such as Ross Perot's EDS, Dun & Bradstreet, Allstate Insurance and Northwestern Mutual Life. He started his own consulting firm, Alan M. Thaler and Associates, in 1975, assisting large insurance companies enter new lines of business. Alan is survived by his wife and loving companion of 62 years, Roslyn Melnikoff Thaler and by his 3 sons, Richard Thaler (France Leclerc) Thaler, Chicago, IL, Donald Thaler (Barbara), Scottsdale, and Maurice Thaler (Susan) Madison, WI. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Greg Thaler (Olive), San Francisco, CA, Maggie Friedfeld (Eric), Warwick, RI, Jessie Thaler, Brooklyn, NY, Carolyn Hahn (Steven), Leesburg, VA, Adam Thaler, Scottsdale, AZ, and Sarah Patterson-Thaler, St. Paul, MN, and great-grandchildren Hallie, Aiden, Julia, and Zachery. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 7, 2004 at 3:30 P.M, at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 E. Pinnacle Peak Rd., Scottsdale. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Alan's name, to the charity of your choice. Published in The Arizona Republic on May 7, 2004
