B.B. King's father dies in Los Angeles Albert King, 77, the father of Blues musician B.B. King, died last Wednesday in Los Angeles following a lengthy illness. King was an orphan who was raised in the Delta by a sharecropper named Love, according to the book "The Arrival of B.B. King". Albert King married Nora Ella King from Kilmichael and then moved to Itta Bena where he drove a tractor on nearby plantation. It was there that their first child, Riley, was born. Shortly after the couple separated, King married Ada Lee King and moved to Lexington where he was a tractor mechanic. In 1943 he moved to Memphis and worked at the Firestone plant until he retired in 1972. In the mid-50's B.B. King bought a farm outside Memphis and moved his father there. In the mid-70's Albert King sold the farm and moved to Gardena, Cal., a suburb of Los Angeles. Other survivors include his wife Ada Lee King; three daughters, Mrs. Faye Henry, Mrs. Burnell Wilson and Miss Cora King, all of Los Angeles; a son, W.D. King of Memphis, 35 grandchildren and 20 greatgrandchildren. The funeral was held in Los Angeles.
