Albert Otten, 99, Industrialist Who Fled Germany in 1930's

Albert Otten, a leading industrialist in Germany who immigrated to the United States in the early 1940's, died Thursday at his home in Teaneck, N.J. He was 99 years old. Mr. Otten, who was born in Bonfeld, Germany, owned and controlled steel and manufacturing companies employing more than 10,000 people throughout Germany in the years before World War II.

In 1937, after Adolf Hitler came to power, Mr. Otten left the country.

In the early 1940's, he immigrated to the United States and formed a pig iron and steel import-export business in New York City.

In 1948, he founded the Albot Steel Company in New York City. Upon his retirement in the late 1950's, he sold the company and pursued philanthropic activities.

As a lifelong avocation, he collected paintings and sculptures, which were exhibited at several universities.

Mr. Otten is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Teaneck; a son , Leslie, of Bethel, Me., and three grandchildren.

ALBERT OTTEN, 99, of Teaneck, died yesterday. Born in Germany, he came to the United States 40 years ago. He was the owner of Albot Steel Company, Lyndhurst. He was a member of Temple Emeth and the Jewish Community Center, both in Teaneck. He was an associate of the Guggenheim Museum-International and a member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art. He also was a supportive member of the American Israel Cultural Foundation. Surviving are his wife, Mildred Berney; a son, Leslie B. in Maine, and three grandchildren. Services were scheduled for today at 1 p.m. at Temple Emeth. Arrangements are by Gutterman-Musicant Funeral Home, Hackensack. Donations to a favorite charity would be appreciated.
