About Albert Tennant
Albert Tennant was the fourth son of the marriage of David Tennant and Hannah Harvey and came to Australia from Penston, East Lothian, Scotland. In 1886 he married Elizabeth Sparrow and came to St James about that time. A young man Charles Cameron had served his apprenticeship under George Irvine, the first blacksmith in Lake Rowan, and as there seemed an abundance of work he opened a "smithy" of his own. Dates are elusive, but it is probable that Albert Tennant and his wife moved out to Lake Rowan after a short stay in St James, to take over the business of Charles Cameron, which was carried on for many years. Albert and Elizabeth Tennant had a family of Claire (Mrs Murray); Emily (Mrs Morgan); Elizabeth (Mrs Harry Irvine); Elsie (Mrs Bert Holmes); David, Jack and Albert. Albert jnr married Marie Williams and their family was Albert Keith (Keith), Raymond, and Jack. The "smithy" has long since closed and vanished but Keith occupies the house, in front of which the shop used to operate. In another section of the history is a photo of the "smithy", showing Albert Tennant, his son David with two of the younger members of the family, and Charlie Blakemore is in the foreground.
Keith farms the property, is married to Joy Urquhart from West Heidelberg. They have a family of Wayne and Lindy.
