About Alden H Moxley
Alden H. Moxley lost his father in 1879 and his mother to child birth in 1880. His sister, Lura "Blanche" only lived to about five months of age. Alden was raised by his grandmother, Damaris Woodward Hendricks Briles.
A.H. Moxley served in the Spanish-American War from llinois. He served with Company E of the 4th Volunteer Infantry as a Private. His residence is listed as Mattoon, Illinois. A photo of his unit in Jacksonville, Florida, 1898, appears in the 150 years Sesquicentennial Celebration of Neoga, Illinois, September, 2006 on page 56.
During the Spanish-American War the regiment served as part of the occupation forces in Cuba. It was mustered in on 19-20 May 1898 in Springfield, Illinois, and was mustered out on 2 May 1899 at Augusta, Georgia.
Married India McKinney in June 1900. Alden and India had two children: Lura and Dean. Dean Moxley died on September 27, 1902 at the age of three months and 9 days. Alden and India were divorced.
Married Grace Estella Hanks August 25, 1906. Three children: Donald, Dale and Earl Alden Moxley (1916 - 1916), who died in infancy. Earl's grave site has not yet been located.

World War II Draft Registrtion Description 1942: 5' 8" in height, weighing 190 lbs. with Blue Eyes, Gray Hair and a Light Complexion.
Alden started his married life as a farmer. Around 1910, he was working as a clerk and in 1918, he was doing carpenter work. Then in 1920, he was a salesman of grocery goods. Alden went to work for the Illinois Central Railroad and in 1930, he was a section foreman. He held that position until his death.
