Aleksander Valfried Lindfors

According to Astoria Oregon newspaper article dated 1/13/1941. When Alex Lindfors, a well know poultry raiser in the Svensen district, failed to show up for work, his wife went to the room and found him dead. Aside from the usual effects found when recovering from the flu, he was apparently in his usual health when he retired the night before. Indications were that he died of a sudden heart attack. It is estimated that he died about 3:30am. He was born in Puori Laani, Finland where he lived until after his marriage. He and his wife came to the US in 1906, locating for about 2 years in Broolyn, NY. In 1908 he & his wife returned to Finland but stayed only a year before returning to the US making it their permanent home. They lived in Brooklyn for 3 years, and then in 1912 came to Oregon, locating for a few months in Portland, then moving to Astoria, and shortly thereafter to svensen. Mr. Lindfors was a member of the Finnish Brotherhood at Svensen and the Wickiup Grange. He is survided by his widow, Ida of Svensen, a daughter Anna Howard-Murphy of Svensen, daughter Mrs. Paul Williams (Aili) of Astoria, a brother August W. Wirta of Grass Valley CA, and four grandchildren.

According to Astoria Oregon newspaper article dated April 12, 1923 - Articles of incorporation of the Uhrbrand-Lindfors Construction Company or Svensen Oregon have been filed in the county clerk's office. The incorporators are Chris Uhrbrand, Alex Lindfors, and L.D. Morgan. The capital stock is listed at $20,000. And the company is authorized to conduct a general contracting business.

According to a newspaper article November 30, 1927 - Alex & Ida Lindfors were surprised by many friends at the Finnish Hall on their 25th wedding anniversay. They were presented with a gift as a token of the high esteem with which they are held in the community. Dancing was the main diversion of the evening.

According to a newspaper article June 6, 1929 - Emil Koski bought Alex Lindfors' ranch at Svensen. Mr. Koski will move onto the place early next week.

Ancestry had his immigration date as 4/3/1909 arriving NY on the ss Lucania, departedd from Liverpool. His occupation is listed as carpenter. His wife is listed as Ida Lindfors, but I don't think she is traveling with him.

Ellis Island Passenger Search has his immigration date as May 5, 1906 (this would be the frist time he comes over - he and his brother august). It Lists him as M (married). Age 23. Five feet six inches tall. Arriving in NY, depard from Liverpool.
