About Aletta Johanna Frowein
Aletta, known as "Let", grew up on the family farm "Janswartskraal" . The farm had been in the Wessels family since her great-grandfather, Johannes ("Jan") Wessels' time. The Wessels family previously lived in the Boer Republic, the Orange Free State, Bloemfontein district where her father met and married her mother. Towards the end of the Anglo-Boer war, the family moved back to the Overberg and lived and farmed on Janswartskraal.
Aletta lived in the Napier and Bredasdorp district as a young adult, later in Roberson with husband and two children. As a senior, moved to Stellenbosch where they owned a book store and a watch shop. After the death of her husband, she lived with family in Stellenbosch, Windhoek, Namibia and Napier. Late in life she remarried a childhood sweetheart from Napier/Bredasdorp district. They retired and lived in Riviersonderend until the death of her second husband. The final chapter of her life was with family in Stellenbosch. She died due to congenital heart failure.
Aletta was a proud and kind-hearted soul, loved to entertain and had an extensive circle of friends. One could drop by her house any time and she would always have coffee and cake ready. An avid gardener and a love for flowers and nature.
