Alexander McLean – “Alasdair Gobha” and his Descendants

This McLean came to Red Islands in 1822 and remained there for some years before he came to this parish. He was a native of Barra, and was a son of John, who was a son of John McLean (An Gobha Mor). Alex McLean married (1) Catherine, daughter of John Ban Gillis. Issue: — John, Michael, Jonathan, Neil, Malcolm, Christie, Mary, and Ann.

His second wife was Mary, daughter of John McKinnon (Eoin) who was married to a daughter of Malcolm McDougall (Miller). Issue: — Neil, Katie, and Elizabeth. Some of the children by the first wife died before their father left Barra.
