Alexander came from an old aristocratic prussian family that moved into the Baltics. They were for several generations Lords of the Oesel island (Today Saaremaa in Estonia)

His father Hermann Alexander von Weymarn (1791–1882), son of Matthias Friedrich, was the Senate Chief Prosecutor and Senator; He ended his career with the rank of true secret adviser. His son Alexander von Weymarn (1827−1888) married the daughter of Count Lüders and founded the Lüders-Weymarn line.
