Alexander Cleland, here treated, is the younger brother of IV John Cleland of Faskine Glasgow Protocols XI: 3427 and the brother of Sir James Cleland of Monkland [NRS: RS40/I/178]

8 March 1600: Ninian Andersone, portioner of Wodsyde, and Jonet Elphinstoun, his spouse, for implement of their part of a marriage contract between them and George Andersone, their eldest son, on the one part, and John Cleland of Foscane and Christina Cleyland, his sister, on the other part, gave sasine to George Andersoun of the 33 s. 4d. land, old extent, of Wodsyde, with the equal half of the mill of Wodsyde, multures and sequels thereof, and all other pertinents, lying in the barony and parish of Glasgow and regality thereof; but reserving their own liferent. Thereafter, George Andersone gave to the said Christina Cleyland sasine of the liferent of the 16 s. 8d. land, being the half of the said lands and the fourth of said mill; but reserving the t, 85. liferent of Ninian Andersone and spouse.
