About Alexander Michael George Fisher

Killed by half-brother Eric Baden McIsaac. As a child, Eric was frequently beaten by his father Peter McIsaac, who was jailed in 1997 for six months for assaulting 7-year-old Eric so badly that he could not leave his bed for four days. Eric's mother was granted a protection order against Peter. As an adult, Eric trashed his mother's house and burnt down his fathers house in December 2012 for which he served jail time. In the days before he killed his half-brother, Eric burgled a Waitārere Beach property, taking bedding and a wood splitter. He was also in possession of a knife. The brothers visited Waitārere Four Square just after 6pm on 5 October for food and drink, planning to spend the night on Waitārere Beach. Eric waited until Alex was asleep before bludgeoning him in the head with the wood splitter. He hid Alex's backpack and possessions around a forest. After a three-day manhunt Alex's body was found in sand dunes.

Alexander Fisher didn't let asthma get in the way of living an active life. A big kid for his age, 10-year-old Alex was known to be a busy child; he was often spotted by those who lived nearby playing around on his bike, or scooting around on his skateboard. On Thursday afternoon at Alex's family home in suburban Levin, a colourful child's bike was propped up against the garage wall. Unmoved. Alex's modest home is in a quiet street. Set behind a fence, a loose chain keeps the gate shut. The neat garden has a bright blue swimming pool and a small lawn. Just four days ago the Fisher family last saw their youngest child. He was spending an evening at Waitarere Beach in the second week of his school holidays. His disappearance during the early hours of Tuesday morning launched a three-day search of the Waitarere coastline, involving police, volunteers, and military personnel. Police remained hopeful of finding the boy safe, but grew more concerned as days went by. Despite the "huge" age gap between Alex and his brothers, they were close. One of the older boys was reportedly autistic but seemed "very harmless". The older autistic brother was often out playing "like a big kid" with Alex on the street, the neighbour said. The brother had a compulsion to walk up and down the driveway a certain number of times a day. Alex attended Ohau School, his parents often driving him to and from the rural school south of Levin. There were reports Alex had been bullied in the past, the neighbour said. In his time at the rural Ohau School Alex won a student of the week award in his class, room two, last year. He showed responsibility by also being commended with a 'bus monitor award', making sure kids behaved on their rides to and from school. Another neighbour said Alex was a lovely child who often scooted up and down his driveway on a bike. "He always stopped and let me past. He is truly a lovely young boy." Even when Alex was on his bike or his skateboard, he "always said hello". One neighbour spoke of Alex's strong attachment to his family: the 10-year-old "never went anywhere" without his parents. He was quiet, reserved, and he kept to himself, but he enjoyed participating in sports. At one of their initial police media briefings, Alex was described as being a "sensible" child. He was a scout member at a Horowhenua club. Source: https://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatu-standard/news/72833002/who-was-10-...

Levin man Eric McIsaac has been sentenced to life imprisonment after he admitted murdering his brother, 10-year-old Alex Fisher, at Waitarere Beach in October last year. McIsaac must serve 14 years without parole for the murder. McIsaac, 26, pleaded guilty to the charge in May. The court was told how McIsaac and Alex were spending the night at Waitarere Beach, near Levin, last October. After Alex fell asleep, McIsaac hit him twice in the head with a wood splitter, killing him immediately. During sentencing the Crown said it was not clear why this happened because McIsaac would not say, but it emerged McIsaac believed he was dying from cancer and that his half brother had been abused. McIsaac also admitted two other charges: possession of an offensive weapon (a knife) and burglary of a Waitarere Beach property between 8 October and 9 September. Alex's body was found at Waitarere Beach after a three-day search in October. More than 100 people took part in the search, helped by helicopters, police dog units, search and rescue teams, and Air Force personnel. Sentencing McIsaac today, Justice David Collins said McIsaac's offending was impossible to understand considering his close relationship with his victim. "He was just ten years old, he was asleep at the time you murdered him, he had no chance of fleeing, or defending himself." The outcome, he said, was the worst ordeal any family could go through. Eric Baden McIsaac has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum non-parole period of 14 years for the murder of his half brother 10-year-old Alex Fisher. But he still hasn't revealed just what happened. The court was told Alex was asleep before McIsaac bashed him to death. Alex Fisher's body was found at Waitarere Beach after a three-day search for the boy who was last seen with his brother at the Four Square in Waitarere, near Levin, in October 2015.
