Alexander Magoon was born about 1725 near Exeter and Kingston, Rockingham County, New Hampshire in British Colonial America. These cities in New Hampshire are about 25 miles north of Boston, Massachusetts. Alexander was the son of Samuel Magoon and Abigail Wadleigh.

Alexander married Elizabeth Leavitt in Kingston, New Hampshire on Oct 5, 1748. According to the History of Exeter, their children included , Dolly (b June 17, 1750), Elizabeth (b Dec 3, 1752), Jonathan (1755-1826), Alexander Jr (1758-1848) and Mercy (born April 4, 1762).

Alexander died around 1777 in Danville, Vermont.
